Terre de Pierre 2024

Grape Variety :

Plot Profile : The parent rock is weathered peridotite (from the Earth’s mantle), forming a hill of serpentinite. Its magmatic origins, unique mineral composition, and the many geological transformations it has undergone give the site known as La Butte de la Roche a remarkable vibrancy. This one-of-a-kind terroir in the Nantes wine region forms the foundation of our family’s winemaking heritage. Its exceptional character is reflected in the distinctive wines produced here. In the 15th century, the Château de la Roche de l’Ouen overlooked the hill. One of its towers was restored by the estate in the summer of 2023, preserving the historical heritage of this promontory overlooking the Goulaine marshes.

AOP :

Winemaking Techniques : Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation using native yeasts. The wine was matured for 14 months in underground concrete tanks lined with glass tiles, without racking, prior to bottling in November 2025.
Tasting : Serving temperature: 12°C.
Food pairing: Crayfish salad from the Goulaine marshes with citrus segments and a Retour des Indes vinaigrette; sea bass baked in a salt crust with a reduced soy and Timur pepper jus; plancha-seared lobster with saffron-infused shellfish reduction; and, with bottle age (e.g. 2014), Poularde en Vessie in the style of Monsieur Paul.

Vineyard care through the seasons

The 2024 vintage was a year of hard work and constant challenges. Despite the difficulties, we found the determination to protect and save half of the crop. Rain arrived at the end of October 2023 and persisted throughout the entire 2024 growing season. As a result, our vineyard team walked the vines countless times over the course of the year, providing the mechanical work and carefully applied natural preparations needed to produce healthy, balanced grapes. We care for our vineyards using natural preparations, without synthetic products. Soil life is stimulated with Horn Manure (Preparation 500), applied once or twice in spring. We also apply a Maria Thun preparation and Horn Silica (Preparation 501) after flowering and, when needed, before harvest. During winter, the vines are pruned short using the single Guyot method, with great care to respect the natural sap flow. Our vineyards are planted at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare. Before pressing in the estate winery, the grapes are meticulously hand-sorted in the vineyard by our harvest team.

Domaine Luneau-Papin, of Marie and Pierre-Marie Luneau, has made a super-relaxed, supple, pure wine with Terre de pierre 2022. On the nose, green melon, but also a touch of butter, which makes it extra round. That’s also how it glides into the mouth. Everything here is rounded and refined, and then, as a surprise, when you swallow it, it suddenly becomes excitingly tight with that distinctive saltiness. fd by Hilary Akers 2024

It is difficult today to think of the appellation Muscadet Sèvre et Maine without immediately associating it with Domaine Luneau-Papin, which has become over the decades one of the region’s essential reference estates. And it is easy to understand why. Pierre-Marie, who took over the family estate after international experience, and his wife Marie seek to express the full potential of this remarkable terroir through meticulous and respectful work. Organic farming became an obvious choice in the late 2000s, followed a few years later by biodynamic practices. The Butte de la Roche, from which this Terre de pierre cuvée is produced, overlooks the Goulaine marshes and rests on serpentinite, a highly distinctive rock. The wine draws from it a strong identity, with an immediately citrus-driven nose evolving into floral notes. On the palate, a creamy attack gives way to a tightening structure and unfolds superb bitterness and a characteristic salinity. Precision, dynamism, and real depth.
